ntupdate =Stéphane Demol (born
March 11 ,1966 in Bosvoorde) is aBelgian soccer coach and former player.Demol started at the age of 9 on the youth team of FC Drogenbos, yet his talent was already noticed in 1980 by
R.S.C. Anderlecht and this gave him a position in the youth team of Anderlecht at the age of 14.Just four years later Stéphane Demol got a chance to play in the senior team of Anderlecht but it wasn't until a year later, in 1985, before he got a real chance in the selection of Anderlecht. Demol was considered a great talent, and very young on top of that. The central defender of Anderlecht was soon noticed by other Belgian clubs, but also by European subtop teams.
This is how Demol joined the Italian Bologna FC team in 1988 and one season later
F.C. Porto . In 1990 the defender moved to the FrenchToulouse FC , but in his second season for the French team, he decided to move back to Belgium andStandard Liège in 1991. He became an important player with this team, and in 1993 they won theBelgian Cup . That year, at age 27, Demol moved to Cercle Brugge but at this team the central defender didn't get much play time. In 1994 Demol moved back toPortugal to play with Sporting Braga. But here too, Demol didn't get to play much, so the next season he moved toGreece .After his Greek adventure with
Panionios , Demol moved toAC Lugano fromSwitzerland and in the same season, he moved toSporting Toulon in the French second division. Demol's career started to decline faster and the end seemed near. In 1998 he played one more season forFC Denderleeuw but he ended his career as soccer player in 2000, while he was playing in local competitions withSK Halle .Stéphane Demol played 38 matches for the Belgian national team and scored 1 goal, with his head in the legendary game of Belgium versus the
Soviet Union at the1986 FIFA World Cup inMexico .After his career as player, Demol became trainer or assisting trainer at a number of clubs. In 2005 he became assistant trainer of Standard Liège. The club ended second in the rankings, just behind Anderlecht. That same year, his good friend and ex-colleague
René Vandereycken , became the Red Devils' coach, and since 2006, Stéphane Demol is assistant trainer of the national football team of Belgium.
