Ian Livingstone 'sFighting Fantasy series. It is the 32nd in the series in the original Puffin series (ISBN 0-14-032548-4). There are currently no announced plans to republish this book as part of the modern Wizard series.tory
The book is mostly set in and around the city of Kallamehr. A strange army, whose nature is unknown, attacks the lands surrounding the city, and whole villages are found deserted; and moreover, a traitor lurks in Lady Carolina's court itself. The player eventually has to travel to the spirit planes to defeat Bykhos, Master of the Abyss, but in order ot gain true victory, he/she must make an ultimate sacrifice, which, however, (in its own way) provides the greater reward.
