Thopputhurai

Thopputhurai is a place at the South end of Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu state, India.

It lies between the East Coast road of Vedaranyam-Nagapattinam around 23 k.m. Radius. Vedaranyam (Thirumaraikadu) town falls under Panchayat. Of the people, 60% are Muslims and people of other religion live in near by villages around this place. Here Hindus, Muslims and other religious people live together and this place can be cited as an example of unity among people of different community.

Thopputhurai is a village near seashore. The name gives that this place has lot of plantation and harbor. From this village, a salt lake mixes with the after running a distance of 4 km. So in the early days, people used to trade using catamarans to board their goods in to steamers whereby they trade with Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and other South East Asian countries.
