April 17 2000 . He made his Major League debut onAugust 17 2004 going 1-5 with a walk. He hit in his first six games in the majors. He missed all of the 2005 season followingTommy John surgery . Guzman hit his first MLB home run onSeptember 11 2007 at Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers) off of left-handed pitcherClay Rapada . Guzmán is well-known in theminor leagues for his base running. He had 264 stolen bases over six seasons.He was ranked by
Baseball America as the second-best prospect in the Padres organization in 2004.
