- The Book (Time Warp Trio)
"The Book" is a fictional item that the Time Warp Trio book and television series revolve around. Depending on what Joe, Fred, and Sam say or do at the time, "The Book" disperses green mist to carry the three anywhere in time and space... often leading to trouble.
"The Book"'s Powers
"The Book" could very well be considered "eternity incarnate". It records events in history as they happen, which means a person can alter the course of events just by modifying "The Book", bringing new meaning to the words "so it is written, so it shall be."
"The Book" primarily operates on verbal commands made in
Pig Latin , but can be activated by certainhaikus orpalindromes . "The Book"'s first revealed function was the ability to teleport its holder to any point in time and space, though it can also bring forth people from other times to where and when "The Book" is.It can also speed up and slow down time in particular areas and even has a spell that freezes everything around in time except those reciting the spell. When it was discovered by
Mary Shelley andDr. Polidori , in a warp done,"The Book" also has the power to bring fiction to life, andFrankenstein 's monster andDracula (unintentionally and intentionally, respectively) were brought into existence for a short time. Background
Handed down from generation to generation in Joe's family each time the next recipient turns 10, it was handed down to Joe in present day (
1995 in the books,2005 in the show) by his uncle and namesake, Joe the Magnificent. Joe and his friends, Fred and Sam, quickly learned of its powers and were often whisked away on exciting, yet dangerous adventures in time after that.Little did they realize, they were being spyed on throughout most of their "time warping". Back when Uncle Joe owned "The Book", his older brother Jack often caused trouble with it. He eventually tried to take over all eternity with "The Book" but failed, and Uncle Joe gave it to his nephew for safekeeping. Mad Jack believes that The Book rightfully belongs to him.
After Joe saw what could happen if "The Book" fell into the wrong hands (
Napoleon used it to win theBattle of Waterloo ), he built a wooden safe box to store it in, stating that "The Book" only be removed in emergencies. However, it still has been removed often--for reasons ranging from getting Joe's Indian ancestors together so he doesn't disappear to visiting the future to see what inventions Sam could make. Once Anna, Joe's little sister, easily took The Book out of the box.
