La'Roi Damon Glover (pronEng|La-ROY) (born July 4, 1974), is an American football defensive tackle in the NFL who plays for the St. Louis Rams.

High School career

A top ranking heavyweight and award-winning shot putter at Point Loma High School, he received letters in both wrestling and track. But it was his penetrating football plays that distinguished him as a serious player with major potential. Under the tutelage of legendary local coach Bennie Edens, he was named to the Cal-Hi Sports first-team in high school. La’Roi was also selected as the San Diego section co-Player of the Year, the Los Angeles Times Lineman of the Year, and designated to the USA Today second-team All-America.

College career

While attending San Diego State University, Glover was a four-year starter in football. As a senior he had 4.5 sacks and 36 tackles, was a defensive captain , won Aztec Outstanding Defensive Lineman honors, an All-Western Athletic Conference second team selection, and was chosen to play for the West squad in the East-West shrine game. As a sophomore, he was a second team All-Western Athletic Conderence selection. As a freshman, he won All-Western Athletic Conference honorable mention honors. He graduated with double major in public administration and sociology

Professional career

La'Roi was selected as the 34th pick in the fifth round of the National Football League Draft in 1996. Throughout his 12-year tenure as a defensive tackle in the NFL, Glover has experienced great success. He has played for several teams including the Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints. During his career he has enjoyed such honors as the New Orleans Saints "Man of the Year" and "Unsung Hero" awards; 2000 New Orleans Saints Defensive MVP award; six Pro Bowl titles and has just been named the Rams 2007 Walter Payton Man of the Year. Known for his passion and knowledge of the game, today La’Roi is an important part of the St. Louis Rams’ defensive unit. He is considered one of the best players at his position in the league. On March 7, Glover signed a three year contract with the St. Louis Rams. The loss of Ryan Pickett and Damione Lewis has guaranteed Glover a start in the defense, whether it is a 3-4 or 4-3.

Personal

La’Roi is equally committed to his work in the community. Fulfilling an intense desire to share the fruits of his on-field success, he established The La’Roi Glover Foundation in 1999. The charitable organization provides scholarships to students in San Diego area and aids community organizations that assist children. Moreover, the Foundation annually provides two scholarships to graduates of Glover’s alma mater, Point Loma High School. He also works with several organizations within the San Diego and St. Louis community to provide assistance to families in need. Recently, La’Roi has joined forces with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri in the “Tackle the Issues” campaign. The effort seeks to bolster volunteer recruitment, raise funds in support of Big Brother Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri programming, as well as the scholarship fund that bears Glover’s name. He also felt it was important to become a Big Brother as he feels strongly about the need for positive African American males to become more involved in the lives of young people. His greatest source of inspiration and motivation is his family.

Spent 2003-2005 offseasons interning with Personalities & Promotions International, a Dallas-based sports marketing company owned by former Cowboy and Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach…helped arrange autograph and speaking arrangements for professional athletes.

During the 2004 and 2005 offseasons, the foundation hosted the annual Casino Night to raise funds to support the foundation goals.

La’Roi currently resides in Ladue, Mo.
