Notable_instruments =The JSD Band were one of the leading folk-rock bands of the early seventies. Following a split up, they reformed to produce two further albums due to the large amount of interest in their early albums. The band were very influential on the folk scene during the boom years.
The band
The band took its name [Peel, John, (1971), Sleeve notes for album JSD Band] from the initials of the three members who formed it in 1969, Jim Divers, Sean O’Rouke and Des Coffield. When they started, they played the folk club circuit with the likes of
Billy Connolly andGerry Rafferty (theHumblebums ) andBarbara Dickson . After getting noticed for their lively electric rock approach to traditional Scottish folk music when they won the 'Scottish Folk Group Championships' at Edinburgh'sUsher Hall [Peel, John, (1971), Sleeve notes for album JSD Band] , they made appearances on BBC Radio withJohn Peel and TV'sOld Grey Whistle Test with ‘Wisperin’ Bob Harris. Their first album was Country of the Blind, in 1971 which came out on the

In July 1974, pressure from various sources took its toll and the band split up. They have since reformed to make two further albums. 'For the record' was a switch to more traditional styles, then Pastures of Plenty went back to the electric folk rock that had made them famous.
