- Julian Grenier
Julian Grenier (died 1275) was the
Count of Sidon from 1239 to 1260, then becoming merely titular. He was the son and successor of Balian I and Margaret of Brienne (daughter of the Count of Brienne, older brother ofJohn of Brienne ). He did not exhibit the wisdom of his father in his dealings with theSaracens .In 1260, he attacked the
Mongols who tookDamas , but they avenged themselves by ravaging the territory of Sidon. Julian, in response, sold the county to theKnights Templar . Ruined by the sale, he entered the order of the Temple himself.In 1252, he married Euphemia, daughter of
Hethum I of Armenia . Between 1256 and 1261, he carried on relationship withPlaisance of Antioch , widow ofHenry I of Cyprus , and enraged thePope , who ordered him to marry her. It was not until 1263, that he separated from Euphemia. With his wife he had three children:
*Balian II, who died atBotron in 1277
*John, died in Armenia in 1289
