Lungelo Lubelwana was born in
Gugulethu ,Cape Town ,South Africa on 15 April 1983. He started playing the piano at age nine, taking lessons from his neighbour, and then played regularly at church. He went toDale College inKing Williams Town , where his formal piano training continued. His friends and the street culture of his home, "Gugs", however, were the strongest influence in steering his music towards hisR&B ,Hip-Hop ,Soul ,Kwaito sound - "Kasi-soul". He studied music at the Professional Music Performance and Technology College (PROMPT), then attended M7 - the music school founded byAbdullah Ibrahim - and added Production and Engineering to his skills.His career took off after a national vote chose him to open for
Snoop Dogg in Cape Town. He was then asked to open forKanye West , and has since performed withPitch Black Afro ,Loyiso Bala , the late TK and Krushed and Sorted. He performed at theJohannesburg Stadium at a Moroka Swallows vs Sundowns Premier League soccer match, has become the face of leading South African fashion label Darkie, and wrote the theme song for the TV comic seriesSupa Strikas onSABC1 . He will be featuring in person and on the soundtrack of South African film “Big Fellas” (to be released 2007). He produced tracks for the South African Music Awards (SAMA) winner ProKid and international Hip Hop group Black Noise, Zambian Pop Idols winner Kapuka and Nigerian superstar Ashionye.His debut album “Collision” was released in November 2006, his website ( [http://www.lungelo.com] ) offers information.
