"Kleo The Misfit Unicorn" is an animated television series for Children that now broadcast on Treehouse TV in Canada and Horse TV in the United States. A television pilot episode for the series aired in 1996, and "Kleo The Misfit Unicorn" became a regular series in 1998. Misfitland is the place you go when you feel like you do not fit in where you are. You can leave whenever you want, but the way in is very specific: When you feel like an outcast in your own world, when you feel like you just don't belong anywhere, that's the moment you'll be magically transported through the gates of Misfitland. It's a happy, friendly place, a refuge-world for some of the strangest and least-wanted animals, vegetables and minerals in the universe. Most of the inhabitants of Misfitland belong here, but often, characters arrive who feel like Misfits, but really belong somewhere else. In these cases, it's Kleo's job to show them this, so that they can go back home.

A Short Tour Since Misfitland is really a state of mind, its geography is without bounds or borders. Take a walk around. Saunter through the meadows of rainbow-hued crabgrass that was herbicided out of earth-bound existence, and sent here. Go for a hike through the Intemperate Rainforest (but pick a day when the trees aren't hung over). Take a dip in the Bubble Pond, or ride a raft down the stately flowing Back-and-Forth River, but be sure that you hop out before you get washed along to the Up-and-Down Falls. Looking for something less strenuous? Why not linger in the Weed Gardens, or try your best to relax under a Snickering Willow Tree? Certain areas are best to avoid, like the Anti-Gravity Field, and the------ . For a better view of the place, climb up to the cliffs of Mount Rushjob, which features hurriedly-drawn hundred-meter-high immortalized likenesses of, well, nobody's really sure. Even the Sun and Moon are misfits in Misfitland--the Sun has very low self-esteem, and sometimes gets dim if not given proper encouragement in the form of simple compliments, such as "Boy, I'm sure glad the Sun is out today. I find I just can't get through the day without it," or, "You know what I love?--The Sun. And how." The Moon, on the other hand, is a bit of a show off, and altogether too keen on eclipses.

Residents of MisfitlandToddling about the place, you're bound to run into all sorts of creatures, including a striped hippo, a shape-shifting bee, some walking fish, a bunch of overly pretentious vegetables with Eastern European accents, a flying cross between an otter and a vacuum cleaner, and of course. ..

Kleo (The Misfit Unicorn)

The only winged unicorn in existence. This is the star of the show, sent from the unicorn home world of ZaZma on a special mission: to aid the departure of those who arrive in Misfitland, but don't really belong there. She's to do this by flying them home on her back, once they're ready. This is quite a daunting task, especially for an eight-year-old unicorn who only recently left her home and family. Kleo's not always sure that she's up to it, and sometimes, her lack of experience frustrates her. But there's a reason that she and no other was sent here to do this job: no unicorn before her has ever been capable of entering Misfitland. It's Kleo's unique wings that allowed her to access this strange place. Unfortunately, those wings cannot carry her back to ZaZma--not until her hundred year tour of duty in Misfitland is over, and the Council of Unicorn Elders calls her home. Outgoing, upbeat, and friendly, Kleo's personality could even be described as "bubbly", but she's no airhead. Kleo is sharp-witted, and curious about the world around her. She's also extremely kind--she's always anxious to give help to those who need it. This makes her a natural for the job of Misfitland's host and welcoming committee, which she performs with a deeply rooted sense of duty, and high purpose. Although her wings set her apart from other unicorns, and this unique physical distinction is what allows her to enter Misfitland, Kleo differs from most of the rest of the population of Misfitland, in that she's never really suffered the social ostracization and feelings of not belonging that often come with being a misfit. In a way, that makes her a sort of Misfit of Misfitland, if you will. Another reason she's been sent to Misfitland is to gain an understanding from the inhabitants of and visitors to Misfitland of what it's like to feel low, inadequate, or scared. Because she grew up in the edenic unicorn world of ZaZma, these bad feelings are new to her, and she's so eager to help, that she sometimes gets impatient when she's not immediately able to snap people out of their misfitness. Over the course of the series, as she gets closer to the misfits, and she becomes more assured in her role, a different nagging problem will arise for her, namely: who will do her job when a hundred years is up, and she returns home to ZaZma?

Kleo's Special Powers

Most of Kleo's powers derive from her wings. Her wings allow her to fly at a fairly good speed around whatever world she's in, and she can go as high as she wants. She can also travel between worlds and even between eras. For example, she could leave Misfitland for medieval Europe, then take off for ancient Egypt, then return to Misfitland in time for lunch. She achieves this by first getting a good altitude, adopting a special stance, then launching into "Ultra Speed" which is a heckuva lot like "Hyperspace" in the "Star Wars" movies; she goes all blurry, takes off like a shot, then suddenly appears somewhere (or somewhen) else. Kleo's horn is like any other unicorn horn, which means it's very hard, and very sharp. She can use it for prodding, digging, or even deflecting projectiles such as rocks and arrows.
When she needs advice, Kleo can call out to Talbut, who will respond to her over the vast distances between Misfitland, Earth, and Talbut's home on ZaZma.

Talbut is the Supreme Unicorn Elder, the political and spiritual head of the Federation of unicorns. As such, he presides over the Council of Elders, acts as caretaker of the Lore of Zazma, and assigns young unicorns to their missions on Earth and elsewhere.Talbut is very old, wise, and dignified. That doesn't mean he's humourless or lacking in imagination. He can even be almost playful in the way he dispenses counsel, often phrasing it enigmatically, in order to teach Kleo to puzzle things out and think for herself, rather than rely on the wisdom of elders. He does this, and other things, because he's training Kleo for a very special destiny. Talbut may not appear for more than a minute in any given episode, but he often plays a crucial role, by advising and encouraging Kleo at moments of crisis.

Talbut's Neck Piece Talbut wears a sort of sash around his neck that holds a brilliant stone at his breast. In addition to its symbolic value as the emblem of his position of authority as Supreme Elder, this large gem also has magical properties: It enables the wearer to see and speak with all unicorns, wherever and whenever they may be; it glows brightly when a unicorn calls out to Talbut across the dimensions; like Kleo's wings, it allows its custodian to travel to any place or time on Earth, but unlike Kleo's wings, the stone does not allow Talbut to travel to Misfitland; it also contains all the secrets, knowledge, and history of unicorn kind; in addition, the stone has other, fantastic powers that may be revealed (see: made up) throughout the series.Talbut's Precipice SanctuaryWhen Talbut wishes to communicate with the displaced young unicorns, or merely to commune with the cosmos, he comes here, to this natural stone promontory, where the edge of the world of ZaZma drops off into the abyss of space. At the center of this outcropping is a small, dark, calm pool, which reflects the images emanating from the neckpiece stone back to its wearer.

These are the key misfits who have chosen to stay in Misfitland indefinitely. They each represent a different aspect of what it can mean to be a misfit.

Slim (The Striped Hippo)

Slim talks pretty tough, with his gruff, Texan accent, but underneath the bluster, he's about as together as Yugoslavia. On the outside, he's John Wayne. On the inside, he's Neville Chamberlain. His inside often comes outside in moments of crisis. Nevertheless, no matter what his mood, he's alway ready to help a friend, or a stranger, for that matter, and when it comes down to the crunch, his size and brute strength can come in handy.

Henry (The walking fish)

This is an upper-class English eccentric in the form of a fish that walks and lives in a tree. Henry considers misfitdom to be an exalted state, a cut above the common. In fact, he feels a snobbish, patrician pity for those poor souls who must "languish in conformity". Henry is supremely self-assured, and he (almost) always justifies that assurance, with grace and style to boot.

The Wannabee (The Shapshifting Bee)

Convinced that "Nobody except bee keepers likes beez", The Bumbling Wannabee has, through the force of sheer insecurity, somehow achieved a chameleon-like ability to shape and voice-shift to whomever he's buzzing around at the time. Unfortunately, the impression is never perfect--no matter who he's imitating, he can't quite hide his wings, and his eyes alway stay a bit buggy. Also, whatever accent he puts on, there's a little bit of a buzz to it that he can't disguise. Things often go wrong around the Wannabee because he's to eager to please, and much too easily led, but no one ever doubts his good (though usually misguided) intentions.

Lyle (The unfierce Dragon)

Imagine the most horrifying reptilian monstrosity you've ever seen. Now imagine it wearing an apron and a friendly smile, offering you a fresh-made batch of chocolate chip cookies. Lyle is huge, with great, big, sharp teeth and impenetrable scales, but he's as unfierce as they come. He enjoys decorating his lair, and prefers to use his fiery breath for low-level convection, rather than crisping maidens, etc. Other dragons shun him for his friendly, tame ways, but that doesn't bother Lyle. He has plenty of friends in Misfitland. He doesn't appear in every episode, just a few here and there.

Jazz Cat plays cool smooth jazz as his couors changes softly.

Episode 1 "Someday I'll Fly"Kleo, afraid to fly, meets a young boy named George who is afraid of water. Together they learn to overcome their fears.

Episode 2 "Dragon Catcher" Kleo meets Marcus, a knight in training with a compassionate heart. When Marcus refuses to catch a fox, the other squires mistake this for cowardice.

Episode 3 "Chicken Girl" Kleo helps a young cowgirl, "Rosie" with dreams of being a rodeo star. The local kids tease her because Rosie is a chicken farmer and they don't think chickens are cool. Can a rebel rooster named Big Red change their minds?

Episode 4 "Misfit Artists"Kleo helps two artists in Misfitland. Jenny is losing pride in her work because of a critical teacher. When Senior Wavy appears, they both learn a valuable lesson in being unique.

Episode 5 "Kleo to the Rescue" Talbut has been kidnapped! Kleo must embark on a dangerous mission to save him from the Cyclops. Kleo helps Cyclops to stop bulling his friends and save Talbut.

Episode 6 "Perfect to a Fault"Kleo meets Hilda, a neat-freak who lives in a garbage dump. Hilda ends up in Misfitland and begins offering her services to those who don't want it. She soon learns that it is only good to help people when they want help.

Episode 7 "The Jester and the King" Kleo travels to Marmalania and meets a Jester and a King. But which one is better at what? When the two switch places they learn that looking below the surface can reveal your true self.

Episode 7 "Thomas and Kleo" Kleo meets a young boy named Thomas who wants to give up inventing. When his inventions don't work, Thomas is discouraged, but he soon learns not to give up.

Episode #9 "Words of Wisdom"Kleo travels to Elizabethan England and finds a young William Shakespeare. He is going to be a great storyteller someday but now his mind is so full of ideas that they get out of hand. Kleo helps him learn to start one project at a time and finish it first before he stars another one.

Episode #10 "The Jade Carving" Kleo goes back in time to the Ming Dynasty to help Gong Li a confused girl. She accidentally broke her Grandfather's jade carving. She does not have enough courage and is afraid to tell the truth. Will she conquer her fears???

Episode #11 "The Emperor of Surtan" A new misfit comes and wants to rule all of Misfitland. He is actually the Emperors reflection from the garden pool and has convinced Kleo not to see Talbut.

Episode #12 "Jazz and Blues" Sabrina is a very gifted musician but sometimes she boasts too much about her talent. She arrives in Misfitland and has nothing good to say about their Talent Show. No one likes Sabrina's comments and the Misfits begin to teach her an important lesson.

Episode #13 "The Pride of Small Potatoes" Jubilee Dancer is being pressured by her owner Mrs. Piggot to become one of the fastest racehorses in the country like her sister Golden Bound

Episode #14 "Pot O' Gold"Finnagan the Leprechaun arrives in Misfitland in search of Gold. He also gives everyone else Gold Fever and now they're all looking for GOLD.

Episode #15 "Daughter Nature" The Earth is in trouble Mother Nature is retiring and her daughter Dot would rather mess up everything than cleaning up pollution. Kleo and the Misfits learn about saving the Earth and Misfitland.

Episode #16 "For Whom the Bell Trolls" Harold is made fun of by his friends because he looks different from the others but actually he's a troll he just doesn't know yet. .. Kleo helps Harold to realize that we are all different and that's okay.

Episode #17 "Maggie Magpie"Kleo helps a misfit bird named Maggie Magpie who has a fondness for shiny objects. Kleo helps show Maggie that stealing is wrong.

Episode #18 "Ena the Hyena" Ena the laughing Hyena likes to tell jokes but they are only funny to her. She comes to Misfitland and the Misfits cheer her up with a joke of their own. Kleo helps Ena learn that there is a time and a place fro joking around.

Episode #19 "Marcia Chronicles" Marcia a Martian needs to send a message to Earth but needs Kleo's help. Slim, Henry and Wannabee think it's an Alien invasion and try to rescue Kleo.

Episode #20 "Seal of Approval" It's Sports Day in Misfitland! Kleo and Sami the seal surprise us all with their special talents but one is always in the spotlight. Kleo and Sami both learn that its good to let others share in the spotlight and have a turn to shine.

Episode #21 "Billy Bigfoot" Billy is a Bigfoot from BC. His little Sister Kimberly gets more attention than him and he becomes angry and jealous. Kimberly is caught by some Bigfoot trackers and Billy doesn't want to save her. Kleo helps Billy to overcome his jealousy and save his sister.

Episode #22 "Amazingly Frank"Frank is a tiny flea who wants to join the Big Show Circus. Nobody can see him and nobody wants him around for fear they will step on him. The Misfits help to perfect his act and now he must show the Circus master that he is ready for the Big Show Circus.

Episode #23 "Mike the Magnificent"Mike the Magnificent is Slim's hero. While Mike is busy saving the Universe he gets bonked on the head and forgets who he is. The Misfits help him remember who he is and Mike returns to again save the Universe. Fantabulastic.

Episode #24 "Waiting for Kleo" Margery thinks she is the fastest cheetah around and can never wait for anything. Her impatience comes crashing down on her as she gets herself and the Misfits into a sticky situation.Kleo helps Margery lean the importance of being patient.

Episode #25 "The Tell-Tale Tail"Conrad wins The Fastest Swinging Monkey Competition but only because he cheated. His tail is against him too and the Misfits try to teach Conrad what winning and playing fair is all about.

Episode #26 "The Reindeer Herders Daughter"Emily lives at the North Pole close to Santa's workshop. She doesn't understand the meaning of Christmas and wants all those toys for herself. Kleo takes Emily to see the children around the world who are waiting for the toys. Emily discovers that it is better to give than receive.
