Sherman's siblings include his younger brother, Jesse Land, and his younger sister, Courtney Gathings. When Sherman was young, his parents split and he continued to live with his mother and grandmother, Betty Cory. In 1990, Sherman's mother remarried her third husband, Gregg Underwood.

He attended local schools, including Dollahan Elementary, Kolb Jr. High, and Rialto High School, where he graduated with High Honors in 1997. Staying involved in extra activities, Sherman was able to escape the tough childhood he had at home, where his family was heavily involved in drugs and struggled financially. The fighting between his mother and stepfather helped to build the bond between Sherman and his younger brother.

During his teenage years, he struggled with understanding his sexual identity. He kept several journals that chronicled his journey to accepting his homosexuality. He is currently compiling his writings into an autobiography that he hopes will help other young kids coming to terms with their sexuality.

Acting

After high school, Sherman moved around among several cities in the Inland Empire, including San Bernardino and Riverside. He attended San Bernardino Valley College in 2001, where he honed his acting talents and took several broadcasting courses. Performing in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", Sherman took to the stage for the first time in many years, earning him praise for his role as Billy Bibbit. However, it was his performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 2002 production of "The Rocky Horror Show" that earned him an Inland Theater League award for Best Actor.

Radio Broadcasting

During this time, Sherman began his career in radio with KCXX 103.9 FM (San Bernardino) as a Promotions Intern. This position led to an on-air shift in May 2002 at KATY 101.3 FM (Temecula), where he hosted an overnight show until April 2003. After leaving KATY and KCXX, Sherman left the radio industry for a short period of time. His resume includes several odd jobs, including a cashier at Coller & Leash in West Hollywood, a video game tester for THQ in Agoura Hills, a security guard for Mervyn's in Fontana, and the Director of Member Services for a video game academy in Calabasas.

Sherman returned to radio in 2005 when he began working for Gold Coast Broadcasting in Ventura, California. As the Promotions Coordinator, he oversaw three radio stations, including KOCP 95.9 FM (Classic Rock), AM 1520 KVTA (News/Talk), and AM 1590 KKZZ (Soft Talk).
