Robin David Cook is a British Conservative Party
politician and the currentMayor ofWimborne Minster inDorset . He previously served as Mayor in 2006/07 and Deputy Mayor in 2007/08 after the untimely death of CllrJohn Perry , JP. He has been a town councillor since 2003.Employed in the retail sector at an early age, he served an apprenticeship in
Harrods . He moved toDorset in 1972, joining theBeales group of companies. In 1987 he moved toWimborne and after a meeting withBill Tapper (a previous Town Mayor in 1978) led to his joining Tappers, a local firm, as the only non-family director. During the 1990s, he was chairman and president of theWimborne Minster & District Chamber of Trade and was responsible for designing the current Town Guide, as well as bringing the present Christmas lighting scheme to the town.In 1991 and 2007 he stood for election in
Wimborne as one of the ward's Conservative candidates for East Dorset District Council. In both instances he lost by a literal handful of votes. In May 2009 he will be standing in the Minster division for the Conservative Party for election toDorset County Council .He is married with two daughters, one son and four grandchildren. He is a volunteer at the
Priest's House Museum and he is a representative for the council on theDorset Association of Parish & Town Councils , theCitizens Advice Bureau Management Committee and Civil Protection.External links
