"Plasmodium vassali" is currently (2007) considered to be a species of "Hepatocystis" rather than a species of "Plasmodium".

The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are mammals.

Description

The parasite was first described by Laveran in 1905.

Clinical features and host pathology

The only known host is the yellow handed squirel ("Sciurus griseimanus").
