Sir Thomas John Mellis Napier KCMG (24 October 1882 - 22 March 1976) was a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia between 28 February 1924 and 28 February 1967, and Chief Justice of South Australia from 25 February 1942 until 28 February 1967.

  • The Napier Mountains were named by Sir Douglas Mawson after the Hon. Sir John Mellis Napier. A subsidiary of the Enderby Land Coast Ranges, The Napier Mountains were first charted in January 1930 by the British Australian New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) under Mawson. This mountain range was first visited by an ANARE party in 1960. Members of this party included Syd Kirkby and Terence James Elkins. The highest in the Napier Mountains is Mount Elkins, at about 2,300 meters above sea level.
