Bert Jacobs

Bert Jacobs (March 2, 1941 – November 14, 1999) was a football manager from the Netherlands, who played for HFC Haarlem. Born in Zandvoort, he started a career as a football coach as a 27-year old when he became the head coach of Velox from Utrecht. Jacobs later became the first manager of FC Utrecht.

In 1974 Jacobs moved to Roda JC, followed by Willem II Tilburg (1980), Seiko Hong Kong (1982-83) and Sparta Rotterdam (1983), where he succeeded Barry Hughes. In 1984 he started to work for Fortuna Sittard, which reached the quarterfinals of the Cup Winners Cup under his guidance. He had to stop working in december 1986 due to cancer, but recovered and signed with Vitesse Arnhem, who he brought back to the highest level in Dutch professional football, the Eredivisie, in 1989. In 1992 Jacobs moved on to Spain, to Sporting Gijon, where he was fired in April 1993 due to bad performances. He then worked for RKC Waalwijk and FC Volendam. He died of cancer, on November 14, 1999, aged 58.
