York Regional Road 49

York Regional Road 49 or locally referred to as Elgin Mills Road, Teston Road or Nashville Road is a rural thoroughfare in Central York Region, Ontario. However, recent urban sprawl had turned the section of York Regional Road 49 in Richmond Hill into somewhat an urban thoroughfare. The road begins its York Regional Road status from York Regional Road 8 to York Regional Road 24 with interruptions in between.

*Attractions: Richmond Green Fairground Complex; Upper Yonge Place; North Maple Park
*Road Status: From York Regional Road 8 to York Regional Road 38, the road is a 4-lanes, paved urban thoroughfare due to the recent urban sprawl happening in Richmond Hill. West of York Regional Road 38, the road is a two-lanes, rural thoroughfare ending at an intersection with York Regional Road 53. The road is interrupted but re-started at York Regional Road 6 as a two-lanes rural thoroughfare ending again upon York Regional Road 57 due to the historical community of Kleinburg. West of York Regional Road 27, the road restarted its York Regional Road status, ending at the York/Peel Regional Boundary.
*Zonings: The recent urban sprawl had turned some farmlands into residential, commercial, and industrial zonings in Richmond Hill and Markham. However, when the road is running in Vaughan, it is mainly farmland with spits of commercial and residential areas near major intersections.

Public Transit

The YRT Route # 90, named Leslie South, running from King to Don Mills Station uses the portion of York Regional Road 49 in Richmond Hill. There are several other routes running along the road, including: YRT Routes # 83A, 82, 86, 20, 87, and 13.

The Viva Blue line passes through Elgin Mills Vivastation at Yonge Street.

Trivia

The York Regional government only assigned portions of Elgin Mills Road, and Teston Road as York Regional Road 49. However, it should be noted that Elgin Mills Road East continues east to York/Durham Line, and that Stegman's Mill Road is responsible for connecting Teston Road and Nashville Road.

History

York Regional Road 49 is also formerly 18th Avenue, as it is the 18th Concession of York County, counting from Lake Ontario.
