Sir Alan Henry Bellingham, 4th Baronet commonly known as Henry Bellingham (23 August 1846 – 9 June 1921) was a British politician and Barrister-at-Law.
Born in Castle Bellingham in County Louth, he was the son of Sir Alan Bellingham, 3rd Baronet and Elizabeth Clarke. Bellingham was educated at Harrow School in Harrow on the Hill and at Exeter College, Oxford, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1869 and a Master of Arts in 1872. In 1909, he received a Honorary Doctorate of Law from the Royal University of Ireland.
In 1875, he was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn. Bellingham served in the 6th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, reaching the rank of Captain. From 1880 to 1885, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for County Louth. Having succeeded to his father's baronetcy in 1889, he was Sheriff of County Louth in 1897. In 1911, he became Lord Lieutenant of Louth, an office he held until his death. Bellingham was further Privy Chamberlain to three popes, Pius IX, Leo XIII and Pius X.
Family
On 13 January 1874, he married firstly Lady Constance Julia Eleanor Georgiana Noel, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Gainsborough in St Thomas of Canterbury in Exton, Rutland. He married secondly Hon. Lelgarde Harry Florence Clifton, daughter of the 22nd Baroness Grey de Ruthyn on 11 June 1895 in the Church of Our Lady in St John's Wood, London. Bellingham had four children by his first wife:
