2001-02 in Dutch football

The 2001/2002 season in Dutch football was the 46th season in the Eredivisie, where Ajax Amsterdam claimed the double (overall title and National Cup).

Johan Cruijff-schaal

Since 1991, the annual opening of the new football (soccer) season is played between the reigning champions and the Cup Winners of the previous season.

The Cup was named PTT Telecom Cup for three years (1991-1993). In the 1994 and 1995 seasons, it was called simply the Super Cup. In 1996, it was officially named the "Johan Cruijff Schaal", named after Dutch football legend Johan Cruijff, and was so named in the 2001-02 season.
