Robert Smith (bowler)

Robert Smith (bowler)

Robert Smith (Born January 16, 1974 in Captain Cook, Hawaii), is a professional bowler and a member of the Professional Bowlers Association. A seven-time titleist, he is considered by many to be the world's most powerful bowler, and also has one of highest rev-rates on tour. PBA.com states that Smith's ball roll has been tracked as high as 27 revolutions per shot. (The average professional achieves about 16 revolutions per shot.) Based on this characteristic, he is known on tour as "Maximum Bob." His style is that of a cranker, although his backswing differs considerably from others.

Among Smith's seven titles is the 2000 U.S. Open, a PBA major that features what many consider to be the most demanding lane oil pattern of any bowling event.

After deferring his 2006-07 exemption and missing almost the entire season due to hip and back injuries, Smith returned in the fall of the 2007-08 season to win the CLR Windy City Classic. Through the end of 2007-08, he has earned almost $750,000 in PBA events during his career. Even with the injury-shortened 2006-07 season, Smith has made at least one TV finals appearance in each of his 10 seasons on tour. He has 30 career 300 games in PBA competition.

Born in Hawaii, Smith now resides in Pataskala, OH.
