Overview

William Cameron Rutherford is known as the director of RRX Network, a Canadian network research company. He is recognized as the project leader for several ongoing North American, next generation, Internet architecture related, research projects. Recent projects include the invited SciNet XNet Super Jumbo Frames project demonstrated at Supercomputing 2005, the Internet2 9000 byte Maximim Transmission Unit (MTU) project (which helped enable jumbo frames across the Abilene and CA*net4 research networks), and the Canadian Internet Route Registry project, which provides an Internet protocol map for Canada. William Cameron Rutherford was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the son of Margaret Birkett Rutherford and William Rufus Hayes, whom were members of the United Church of Canada. William was educated at local public schools, and Brentwood College, located in Mill Bay, British Columbia. He graduated from the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, in physics and astronomy. After working in the private sector, in Vancouver, for International Business Machines, he returned to the University of British Columbia, receiving a Master of Applied Science degree in computer and electrical engineering, then attended the University of Alberta, receiving a Doctor of Philosophy, dedicating the thesis to the university's founder and also his great grandfather Alexander Cameron Rutherford. William incorporated RRX Network in Alberta and started a branch office in Vancouver while completing his doctorate.
