Dyno (climbing)

A Dyno is a technique, commonly used in rock climbing, to use the arms and legs to gain height and distance in a quick, fast, maneuver.

Technique

Technique is a prime factor in the execution of a Dyno, and can be more important than strength.The best way to gain height is to take a single swing and pull hard on the obstacle/handhold, whilst kicking hard of the wall/foothold up in the direction towards the handhold or obstacle you are aiming for. Then reach up and grab the obstacle with one or two hands. For it to be a dyno both hands and feet must come completely off of the wall. The best option now is to place feet on the wall, to avoid falling, but it is possible to hang out without doing so when hands and grip are stronger.
