The Danie Theron Medal was a South African military decoration that was in use from 1970 to 2003. It was awarded for diligent service in the commandos (home defence). Originally, from 1970 to 1975, it was reserved for officers, but from 1975 it was open to all ranks. The medal was named after Danie Theron, a famous Boer scout who fought valiantly in the Second Boer War as a guerilla warrior and freedom fighter.
