Harriet Utter

Harriet Utter

Harriet Smith was born in about 1816 in Lower Canada (later Quebec). She eventually married Upper Canada native Henry Utter (1809-1898) and in 1833 the couple moved to Warwick Township in the Western District of Upper Canada, in what later became Lambton County. They are considered to be the first Euro-Canadian settlers on what became the site of Arkona, Ontario. An Episcopal Methodist, Harriet died on June 15, 1882 and is buried at the Arkona Cemetery.
