Background and education
Peckham was born in Madison, Wisconsin but grew up in West Point, Nebraska. He attended Creighton University, where he received a Master's degree in English.[1]
Writing career
Peckham's work has appeared in both print and online media, including Time (magazine), Technologizer, The Washington Post, ABC News, Yahoo Tech, MSN, Variety, Computer Gaming World, 1UP, Games For Windows, PC World (magazine), Electronic Gaming Monthly, The Sci-Fi Channel, X-Play, GamePro, and others. He also edits and maintains the official site of Eisner-nominated British writer Mike Carey and American artist/writer Peter Gross.
Peckham's 2004 SF Site article on Stephen King's Dark Tower series[2] was cited by Best American Fantasy series[3] editor Matthew Cheney as "one of the best pieces of criticism I've read in quite some time."[4]
Peckham partnered with PC World to launch a games blog in April 2007.[5] In 2009, the blog was nominated for a Maggie Award in the category "Best Regularly Featured Web or Digital Edition Column/Consumer."[6]
Controversy
Peckham's review of Atari's Neverwinter Nights 2 was controversially removed shortly after publication by games site 1UP after company executives (though not editorial) disagreed with its style and content.[7] The review was later published by The Sci Fi Channel.[8] Peckham has also been a vocal critic of media score aggregators such as Metacritic and Gamerankings for averaging non-normalized grading scales and producing misleading percent totals.[9][10]
