Bettws is a small ex-mining and farming village in the South Wales Valleys in the county borough of Bridgend, Wales. Also spelled 'Betws' and is pronounced 'Bet-uws' (IPAEng|ˈbɛtuːs).

The population of Betws is approx. 2,400 according to The Betws LIFE Centre.

Bryngarw Country Park is only approx one mile from the village with a footpath leading from Bettws.

The village is about 3 miles away from Junction 36 on the M4 Motorway.

Schools

Almost all children aged 3-11 attend Betws Primary School which is currently headed by Mrs. Colette Aston. When Pupils complete Key Stage Two, 91% of students attend Ynysawdre School where as a minority attend either Ogmore School, Brynteg Comprehensive, Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari or Brynteg School.

Recent Deaths

Since May 2008, 4 people have commited suicide by Hanging themselves. They were:Sean Rees, 19 of Heol GlannantNeil 'Norman' Owen, 20 of Heol GlannantCarwyn Jones, 26 of Heol GlannantRhys 'Betty' Davies, 23 of Maes Glas.

Most noted was the sudden death of Sophie Harris, 16 of Heol Bradford. She was killed in a freak train accident when one of her friends trew her mobile phone on the track and Sophie went to get it but didnt get of the tracks in time as the train hit her.
