Madison Metro

Madison Metro Transit operates extensive bus service throughout the city of Madison, Wisconsin and to the surrounding communities of Middleton, Fitchburg, and Verona. Systemwide, fixed route rideship was 12.0 million in 2006. [ [http://legistar.cityofmadison.com/attachments/8526.pdf Metro operating statistics, 4/30/2006 - 4/30/2007] ] Metro Transit also provides school bus services to Madison middle and high schools via routes 90, 91, 92 and 93. They serve the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, the Eagle Heights University apartments, and some residential areas near campus via routes 80, 81, 82, and 85.

Route network

The route network focuses on hubs at the Capitol Square in downtown Madison and five transfer points in outer parts of the city. Routes are loosely numbered by part of town served. Primary routes (2, 3/7, 4, 5, 6, and 13) each serve multiple parts of the city, including downtown and the Capitol Square. Routes numbered in the 20s serve the north side, routes in the 30s serve the east side, 40s serve the south side, 50s and 60s serve the west side, and 70s serve Middleton and the far west side. Many routes service the Downtown State Street area. Dane County Regional Airport is served by Route 24.
