Fat Les are a British band consisting of
Alex James from Blur; actorKeith Allen ; and artistDamien Hirst .Vocals on their singles include Keith Allen (all), Alex James ("Vindaloo"),Lily Allen ("Who Invented Fish & Chips?"),Andy Kane ("Who invented Fish & Chips?"),Lisa Moorish ("Naughty Christmas") andMichael Barrymore ("Jerusalem").Fat Les created the
England national football anthem "Vindaloo" as an unofficial theme song for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. The song was a sort of homage to the lighter English football culture stereotypes: lager drinking, curry eating 'lads' passionate about football, the sort who visit exotic holiday destinations only to watch English football matches all afternoon via satellite in English themed pubs. The song reached number two in the UK charts. The promo video was a parody of a video byThe Verve for "Bitter Sweet Symphony " and along with the band members featuresPaul Kaye ,Rowland Rivron ,Ed Tudor-Pole ,Matt Lucas andDavid Walliams .Fat Les also provided a song for the England football team at
Euro 2000 held inBelgium and theNetherlands with a marchy rendition of the hymn Jerusalem. It was again, fronted by the actorKeith Allen alongside the then popular entertainer,Michael Barrymore (featured in the video).ingles
