The station carried out a full month of test transmissions before launching at 6 a.m. on 1 August 2007. The first voice heard on air was that of Steve Jordan who then introduced Programme Director Tim Jibson. The station was then officially launched by Chairman Ian Blakey, he spoke about his love of radio and then played the first song which was "Twist and Shout" by The Beatles.

Branding

KCFM's launch jingles are resings of a KVIL package produced by radio ident company Jones TM in the U.S.A [http://www.jinglemad.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?46295] . A custom made news jingle has also be commissioned, this can be heard before the news every hour.

Controversy

During the station's last RSL trail broadcast as "KC107.3", local newspaper the Hull Daily Mail complained to industry regulator OFCOM claiming that news bulletins were lifted from them without their permission [http://www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk/news/2005/05may/050504war.shtml] . A war of words soon developed between the paper and KC Stadium chairman Adam Pearson [http://www.hullcityafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10338~659406,00.html?] , this culminated in the mail publishing a front page entitled "The Facts" which went into further details in a substantial spread within the paper [http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s411/st72313.htm] .
