Protection From Abuse

Protection From Abuse

A Protection From Abuse (commonly abbreviated as PFA) is an injunction to protect a person or persons in or just out of an abusive relationship with a romantic partner or family member, similar to a restraining order. Enforcement varies from state to state, but it is most often a circuit court order that allows intervention by police "before" abuse occurs.http://www.acadv.org/legal_pfa.html Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence: Protection From Abuse Frequently Asked Questions] A Protection From Abuse typically prevents the harasser from making abusive threats or phone calls, destroying property, or harassing the complainant or his or her offspring. PFAs can also grant custody of children and settle disputes about property and finances.
