Kim Dong-Sung (born
9 February 1980 ) is aSouth Korea n short track speed skater, who won two medals at the1998 Winter Olympics and has been the two-time champion at theWorld Short Track Speed Skating Championships (1997, 2002). Controversy surrounded his disqualification at the2002 Winter Olympics , where it was thought that he originally won the 1500 m but was disqualified for blockingApolo Anton Ohno .Later that year (2002), Kim took every single gold medal in the men's category at the
2002 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships , a feat achieved by no one else in the history of the competition. In particular, he astounded spectators and competitors alike when he sprinted ahead during the 1500m race and retained his speed throughout, eventually winning the gold by finishing ten seconds ahead of the silver. He also showed a remarkable comeback in the 5000m relay, afterAhn Hyun-soo fell over with four laps to go, by regaining a 20m gap between the Canadian team and the Korean team to seize the gold medal.Kim now lives in the Washington, DC area and is the coach of the [http://www.potomacspeedskatingclub.org Potomac Speedskating Club.]
