Creation and River course:

The Lohbach originates out of an overground spring at the eastern edge of the "Kranebitter" ravine. Then it runs in a slight elliptical course to "Eastern Hötting" and along the "Lohbach waterside" further to "Vögelebichl".At the "Fischerhäuslweg" the name changes to Gießenbach and the creek flows subterranean further to the Inn River. A part of the creek is branded off and runs into the airport area. The length of the Creek is 13 kilometres; thereof 7.8 km overground.

Use:

A part of the water supplies the whole airport area. The sewage is directed subterranean to the sewage treatment plant of the city. The rest merges near the university with the Inn River. Near Peerhof the city is currently planning to create a nature excitement park with playgrounds and a pond with a total size of one hectare. The construction should be finished until August 2009. This should also protect the still intact living space in and around the "Lohbach".

Fauna and Flora / Water quality:

The overground "Lohbach" is the last relic of a big lea, which had to make place to the population of Kranebitten. In the still natural riverbed there are lilies, formations of clovers and some unique plant communities, which can not be found elsewhere around Innsbruck. Even bats, amphibians, rainbow trouts and rare butterflies can be found in and by the water run. Waterside protection zones were erected by the city administration, contravention are treated with high penalties. The Creek has drinking water quality and big grids separates the "Gießenbach – area" so that the fishes are not harmed through the use. The further course has Grade B.

Others:

Due to the ground level route of the Lohbach the water flows calm in a natural riverbed with app. 60 cm width. An uptown was arisen here for the more prosperous people of the city.
