Kessler Whiskey is an American blended whiskey brand started by Julius Kessler in 1888, known for the slogan, "Smooth as Silk".

Kessler Whiskey was founded by Julius Kessler in the late 1870s in Leadville, Colorado. Kessler, born in Budapest, Hungary, at an unknown date, went to America and succeeded in making his fortune. In the early days, Julius Kessler went from saloon to saloon selling the whiskey. Kessler retired from the business in 1921 [ [http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,748931,00.html "Whiskey Names"] , Time, August 26 1935] . Kessler's company quickly became profitable, in part due to the higher prices the whiskey commanded in remote areas. Due to the prominence of his whiskey, Julius Kessler became president of the Distiller's Securities Corporation, also known as the "Whiskey Trust." Around 1935, Kessler Whiskey was acquired by Joseph E. Seagram of Seagram's. [ [http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,748931,00.html "Whiskey Names"] , Time, August 26 1935] They planned to market the Kessler brand as one priced below their 'Crown' line, for example Crown Royal.
