The Faceless Hunter is a fictional alien in the DC Comics universe. He first appeared in "Strange Adventures" #124, (January 1961), and was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky.

Publication history

The two races of Ma'aleca'andra (Mars) are directly responsible for the H'ronmeerca'andran colonies on the moons of Saturn. The Red Saturnians and White Saturnians are descended from an underclass of worker clones created by the ancient ancestors of the Martian Manhunter.

The Martians may also have colonized the subatomic "Saturnian moon" of Klaramar, homeworld of the Faceless Hunters. The Hunters all appear to have orange skin, pointy ears, a total lack of facial features, and are at least nine feet tall. Like the Martians and Saturnians, Klaramarians are telepaths.See [http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=facelesshunter DCU Guide: Faceless Hunter] ]

Fictional character biography

Pre-Crisis

Chun Yull first comes to public attention in 1961, after a failed attempt to conquer the Earth. Chun Yull's continual attempts at conquest were always defeated by Klee Pan, a Klaramarian "Manhunter", with the help of highway patrolmen Bob Colby and Jim Boone. Klee Pan eventually rewarded Colby and Boone with their own limited telepathic abilities. After his last defeat at the hands of Klee Pan, Chun Yull was imprisoned within the inescapable "Spheres of Light" for three decades until he was found and freed by the Enchantress.

Together with other villains like Yggardis the Living Planet [ [http://www.mykey3000.com/cosmicteams/obscure/y.htm#Yggadris Yggardis the Living Planet ] ] , Atom Master, Kraklow the Mystic, Vandal Savage, Mister Poseidon, and Ultivac, Chun Yull and the Enchantress formed a criminal organization called the Forgotten Villains. The Forgotten Villains were repeatedly thwarted by their opposite numbers on the Forgotten Heroes, and were all eventually defeated and incarcerated. Chun Yull briefly reappeared during the Crisis on Infinite Earths as a member of Lex Luthor and Brainiac's villain army.See [http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=facelesshunter DCU Guide: Faceless Hunter] ]

Post-Crisis

The modern Chun Yull first appears fighting Young Justice on the island nation of Zandia (as seen in Young Justice #50). [ [http://www.dcuguide.com/YJ/YJ_050.php "Young Justice" #50 ] ] and in "Green Lantern" (vol. 4 issue #15), he and a fellow Faceless Hunter take control over the minds of several Global Guardians members, in a failed attempt to trap and capture Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

Powers and abilities

*Both Chun Yull and Klee Pan possessed great strength and both had the ability to absorb the material or energetic properties of anything they touched and project those properties explosively. The Klaramarians also appear to be around ten feet tall, and telepaths. Klee Pan demonstrated the ability to grant a limited gift of telepathy to deserving humans.See [http://www.dcuguide.com/who.php?name=facelesshunter DCU Guide: Faceless Hunter] ]
*The modern Faceless Hunters have demonstrated telepathy, and the ability to shrink to microscopic size. They also have access to extremely advanced alien technology.

Notes

*"Klar-a-mar" breaks down into "clear of imperfection". Klar is the German language term for "clear", and "mar" can mean either blemish or imperfection.
