Emad Barzani

Emad Barzani ( _ku. عیماد بارزانی) was one of the most prominent figures in the Barzani family. He was the grandson of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani, the head of Barzani tribe. He survived at least four assassination attempts by Iraqi agents. He was arrested by Saddam Hussein’s agents in 1983 along with 36 members of his family. To this day nobody knows what happened to them. However, In 1983, Saddam's regime rounded up about 8000 men from Barzani tribe, took them into Iraq’s southern desert and executed them. The remains of 500 victims were brought to Kurdistan from a mass grave discovered in al-Muthanna province in 2006.
