- Thorpe Coombe Hospital
Thorpe Coombe Hospital is a psychiatric unit and former maternity hospital in
Walthamstow , north-east London, and part of North East London NHS Mental Health Trust.History
The hospital was opened as a
maternity hospital in1934 , making use of part of a mansion which had been owned byOctavius Wigram . It ceased maternity facilities in1973 and was subsequently used as a nurses' home, then a treatment centre forAlzheimer's disease patients, and latterly an out-patientspsychiatric hospital .Never a large hospital (as a maternity hospital it had 70 beds), today it predominately houses administrative staff: it is the base for the local community mental health team. It does however still offer some out-patient treatment for children and teenagers.
