Emanuel Driggus

Emanuel Driggus

Emanuel Driggus was an Atlantic Creole in the mid seventeenth century. He was in the service of Captain Pot. After twelve years of servitude, Captain Pot, while in debt, sold Emanuel's and his wife Frances's children in exchange. In 1661, Emanuel was granted his freedom. He leased land at a higher rate than that of a white man. He died soon thereafter, leaving behind his wife and children.
