radio station based inAlbuquerque, New Mexico . It broadcasts a 50's and 60'soldies format as "Real Oldies 1600" and is owned by Vanguard Media. The station is streamed online along with its Soft AC sister station KKJY-AM 1550.The KRKE call letters originated at 610 AM, when that Albuquerque station switched to pop music in the 1970s, to compete with longtime market leader KQEO.
1600 began its oldies format in early 2005 after stunting with an all Elvis format for a couple of weeks at the end of 2004. 1600 had previously been "The mix of New Mexico" as KANM. It also had an all-news format as KIVA from 2000-2002 after it had moved to 1600 from 1580 AM. It was the home of
Radio Disney as KDZZ in the late 90's and had a classic country format as KRLL from 1993-1995 but for many years was an AM simulcast for KZKL-FM (101.7) "Kool 102" an oldies station.History
