Sophie Howe

Sophie Howe LL.B (Hons) (born 1977) is a Welsh Labour politician, a former councillor for Whitchurch & Tongwynlais who stood for the National Assembly for Wales for Cardiff North.

Biography

Howe previously worked as the legal services manager for the Equal Opportunities Commission in Wales [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4479302.stm BBC NEWS | Wales | Plan to boost access to childcare ] ] , where she advised individuals on sex discrimination and championed gender equality. She now works for the Eaulity and Human Rights Commission as a Political Advisor

She was elected as a councillor representing Whitchurch & Tongwynlais ward of Cardiff on 6 May, 1999, the youngest councillor in Wales at the age of 21. Howe serves on the Children and Young People and Business Committees. On 10 December, 2006 Howe was selected as the prospective National Assembly for Wales candidate for Cardiff North, in the campaign to replace sitting member Sue Essex who was standing down in the forth coming 2007 Assembly Elections [ [http://www.geocities.com/juliemorganmp/sophie_strongfamilies.html Julie Morgan MP : News ] ] She eventually lost to Conservative Jonathan Morgan.

In May 2008, while deputy leader of the Labour group on Cardiff Council, Howe lost her council seat when the Welsh Conservatives took all four seats in Whitchurch & Tongwynlais. Personal life

Her father Peter is office manager for Cardiff North MP Julie Morgan, [ [http://juliemorganmp.blogspot.com/2007/04/sophie-howe-cardiff-north-promises.html Blogger: Connexion en vue de la lecture ] ] wife of first minister Rhodri Morgan. Married to Ceri with three children, Howe's political interests are based around strong families and family issues.
