Russ Rymer

Russ Rymer

Russ Rymer is a book author and freelance journalist with articles in the "New York Times", the "Los Angeles Times", "The New Yorker", and others. His first book, "Genie, a Scientific Tragedy", was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and awarded with the Whiting Writers' Award. Rymer is also author of two books about American Beach - "American Beach: a Saga of Race, Wealth, and Memory" and "American Beach: How "Progress" Robbed a Black Town--and Nation--of History, Wealth, and Power".

His books center around the subjects of American Beach, Florida and the Lewis-Betsch family - specifically Abraham Lincoln Lewis and MaVynee Betsch.

From 2005 to 2006 Rymer served as editor-in-chief of Mother Jones magazine. He lives with fellow author Susan Faludi.
