Italian language : "Derby di Sicilia", "Derby siciliano") is alocal derby between Italian football clubsCalcio Catania andU.S. Città di Palermo .Catania andPalermo are the two main cities on the island ofSicily , and the teams are fierce rivals. However, they have seldom played each other within theItalian football league system , because in many seasons they have played in separate divisions of the league. The first time the Sicilian derby took place nationally was onNovember 1 ,1936 , atPalermo , at theSerie B level, and ended in a 1-1 draw. The Sicilian derby has been played six times inSerie A : it was won twice by Palermo, and ended in a draw in the remaining four fixtures.
