Pappu Sain

Pappu Sain

Pappu Sain (Urdu: پپو سائیں) is a famous sufi dhol player. He performs every Thursday evening at the Tomb of Shah Jamal in Ichhra, Lahore, Pakistan.

There is another man named Goonga Sain who plays dhol at the same time. Pappu Sain plays dhol downstairs while Goonga Sain plays upstairs.

He has taken his Sufi-style of drumming to Germany, Switzerland, and Britain, and has performed throughout the Muslim world. Pappu Sain has recently been featured in performances with the Pakistani music band Overload.

Baba Shah Jamal, a 19th century saint, also used the drum and the dance to perpetuate Islam.
