Denise Harlett

Denise "Deni" Harlett is a character from "The Weapon", the second book in the Freehold War series by Michael Z. Williamson. She is an enlisted soldier in Black Operations, the covert operations division of the Freehold of Grainne's military, and was killed in action during the Freehold's war with Earth.

Biography

Deni was born on Grainne around 2500 and joined the Freehold Military Forces at age eighteen. She met and began dating Kenneth Chinran after completing basic training; the two were never officially married, but were a de facto couple throughout "The Weapon". Deni was deployed to the planet Mtali as part of the FMF's intervention force and later on volunteered for covert insertion on Earth as a sleeper agent.

While in hiding on Earth, Deni became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter whom she named Chelsea. The child's existence was carefully concealed from the U.N. authorities since the unit members believed it might compromise the unit's cover, but this was ultimately a moot point as they were activated about a month later. Deni was killed by U.N. troops when her Black Ops cell was tracked down by U.N. intelligence after launching a successful chemical weapons attack on the city of Minneapolis.

Career

Deni was trained as a sniper and reached the rank of Senior Sergeant prior to her untimely death. She served as a fireteam leader and squad leader during the Mtali peacekeeping operation and was Captain Chinran's assistant cell leader on Earth.
