Strabag (ISIN|AT000000STR1) is a European construction company based in Vienna, Austria (formerly based at Spittal an der Drau, Austria). It is the largest construction company in Austria. Strabag's current CEO is Hans Peter Haselsteiner. With revenues of € 10 billion, a workforce of 53,000 employees and about 500 subsidiaries it is the fifth largest construction company of Europe.

History

The business has its origins in two businesses: (i) Lerchbaumer, founded in 1835 by Anton Lerchbaumer and known as ILBAU from 1954 and (ii) Strassenwalzenbetrieb, founded 1895, and known as STRABAG from 1930. These two businesses came under the common ownership of BIBAG Bauindustrie Beteilingungs Aktiengesellschaft (subsequently renamed Strabag SE) - a company listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange - in 1998. Subsequent acquisitions included Strubag in 1999 and a majority in Ed. Züblin in 2005.

Strabag is also involved in the construction of the Limerick Tunnel, which will run from the junction of the Limerick ring road with the N69, under the river Shannon allowing a connection by road with the N18 Ennis road, due to complete in 2011.
