Mexico . It is found between 25° to 20 North Laitude at 1400-2600 m above sea level. Is rainfall range is 600-1700 mm a year, being the southernmost specimens those which live in the moister sites, while trees in some parts of the north can live in semi-arid conditions. It grows from warm temperate to cool climates. Most of rainfall occurs in summer. Is a very drought tolerant tree.It has been introduced at high altitudes inZimbabwe ,Colombia andBolivia , and at lower altitudes than is origin country inBrazil ,South Africa and the Argentine province of Córdoba. InSouth Africa it thrives in semiarid zones where other trees considered drought tolerant likePinus taeda andPinus patula cannot grow.References
