- Ghorewaha
Ghorewahas (or Gorewaha) are
Kachwaha Rajput s. Raja Man , sixth in descent fromKush , son ofLord Ram ), had two sons, Kachwaha and Hawaha of the lineage of Hawaha (161). They lived in Hosiarpur and Jalandher before partition, but as quite a lot of them followed Islam, most had to migrate toPakistan after partition. The famous chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, belongs to this clan. They use Rana as their family title.History
The Ghorewahas live in the southeast
Nawanshahr Tahsil, as well as in the adjoiningGarhshanker Tahsil ofHoshiarpur , but they also hold estates in easternPhillaur Tahsil. The Grand Trunk Road between Phagwara and Phillaur is the boundary between them and the Manj Rajputs. They run various communities in this area.TheNawanshahr andPhillaur Ghorewahas give similar accounts of their arrival in this country. In Sambat 1130 or 1131 two brothers, Ahwaha or Hawaha andKachwaha , sons of Raja Man, came from Kot Kurman or Kurwan on apilgrimage to Jawala Mukhi. Near Arak, a place inLudhiana , close to Rupar, they met Shababudin Ghori, who was then the ruling monarch. They presented a fine horse to the king, who gave each as much country as he could ride round in a day. Hawaha joinedSutlej , andKachwaha the other side, and at night fall the former threw down hisspear , at what is now thevillage of Selkiana, to show the limit of his domain while the latter marked the spot where he had arrived at by hisbracelet , on the site of the present village of Kangananwal.Kachwaha returned toUdaipur , but Hawaha remained and held both territories.Successors of Hawaha
According to Suleman Khan of
Rahon , the successors of Raja Hawaha have beenraja s for for 13generations . Raja Bin was the father of Rana Rajpal and Bhinsi. The Ghorewahas of Rahon and Shekhomazara and those of Saroha Simil, Mukandpur and Gag in the Garhshankar Tahsil and of Bairsian , Kunail are descended from Rana Rajpal, son of Raja Bhin.Till Indian independence in 1947 the Rana of Rahon and the Rajrana of Jadla controlled most of the estates, while the Muslim Rana of Rahon fled to Pakistan after Partition; the successors of the then Raja Rana Labh Singh of the
Zamindari of Jadla-Ghorewah remain in Punjab, the zamindari was brought down to 11 villages in the 1950's and abolished in 1956 while the title was handed down to his successor Rana Jagdish Singh .*Controversy
It is suggested that the Ghorewahs are not Kachwahas as Kot Kurman which is often identified with Udaipur is not where the Kachwahas are found. The Kachwahas are found in Jaipur and the Sisodias are found in Udaipur.
