Psyopus (sometimes written as PsyOpus) is a technical metal band from Rochester, New York. Formed in 2002, the band is noted for the unorthodox and extremely technical guitar techniques of Christopher Arp, often referred to as "Arpmandude". In order to receive endorsement deals from various guitar and amp companies, Arp had to send a live video of him playing in order to prove that he could actually play as fast as he does.

The band recently recorded and released "Our Puzzling Encounters Considered" in February 2007. The techniques Arp uses have made it even more difficult to receive any endorsement. Arp himself said, "Mesa Boogie has not done very much to sponsor me because I do too much of this," as he raised his guitar by the whammy bar shaking it up and down. The band is currently in the studio for their 3rd full length album.

Recent News

As of September 14, 2007, Psyopus have found a new bassist. The band made the following statement:

"We here at the Psyopus camp are happy to announce that we have found our new bass player in the form of a Michael Horn. He is a 24 year-old freak of nature from just outside of the Washington, DC area. He graduated from The Shenandoah Conservatory with a degree in Arts Management with a minor in jazz bass alongside two years of classical bass training at the institution.

"He will now be being institutionalized into the Psyopus school of music alongside the realitively new talent in the form of University of Buffalo's Percussion major, Buffalo, NY's own Jason Bauers, and the acid drenched persona of The Jefferson Plane Crash's vocalist, Fredericksburg, VA's own Harrison Christie.

"The promisingly revamped Psyopus line-up will be showcased on the road coming this November. Psyopus has four dates in the North East United States area supporting Japan's own noise rockers Melt Banana. Dates have yet to be officially announced." Trivia

Guitarist Christopher Arp was the regional winner during Limp Bizkit's nationwide open auditions for a guitarist to replace the departed Wes Borland. It can be viewed on [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT9IYtTBK7Q&feature=user Youtube] .

""At the time, I was having no luck starting a band and was working the graveyard shift in a factory, just getting by. Some guy at work asked if I was going to audition and I was like, 'Nah.' He said, 'Yeah, I can see why you'd blow that opportunity off, working graveyard in a factory.' That just kind of put it in perspective; it would have been a job change and straight up, those guys hang out at the Playboy mansion," he laughs. "I went and just played a bunch of unorthodox crap. I think that's what I had going for me."
