Formed originally to record a solo project by the singer and songwriter Mike Barry, former singer forPooka Stew , the line-up ofguitar ist Milt Reder, bassist Dean Cassell, and legendary English folkdrum merDave Mattacks - who has recorded with many noted acts includingPaul McCartney ,XTC and Richard Thompson - clicked, and Super Genius was born.The band's debut album, "Eleven Songs About Love, Lies, Money, Class-Warfare and Monkeys", was positively reviewed in a number of U.S., publications, including the "Boston Globe" and "Boston Herald", then was picked up by
Bob Harris fromBBC Radio 2 , who called the album "music...from people who really DO know what they're doing" and chose it as one of his "best of 2003". This led to the band's signing a deal withTrack Records , who released it, with a bonus track and video, as "The Cult of Money."The band's second album, "Heel Thyself", was released on July 17, 2007. It features guest vocals on three songs from
