Wild card players were introduced fot the first time and the 2 places went to the legendaryAlex Higgins and the young new professional fromThailand ,James Wattana who won his game againstDean Reynolds and played the six times world championSteve Davis in the next round. Higgins meanwhile lost his match againstSteve James who had won the Mercantile Credit Classic in January. This was to be his last appearance in the Masters. The final meanwhile hadStephen Hendry winning his second Masters title becoming the second player afterCliff Thorburn to retain the title beatingJohn Parrott again in the final 9-4. Hendry attempted a 147 break in the 11th frame before missing the 13th black.Prize Money
