"Higher Calling" is the 109th episode of the television series "Third Watch" and the 21st episode of the 5th season.

Plot Summary

A death in the Boscorelli family causes Bosco to finish the man who killed him.

Plot Details

A new paramedic, Grace Foster, is transferred to the 55. She and Carlos immediately face off after Grace tells him that she used to work as a paramedic in the 68th precinct, which she calls a "war zone". She repeteadly confronts him, and Carlos finds her "so hot", while when he confronts her, Grace finds him brave for confronting her. Kim is feeling under the weather, but she blames it on chinese food.
Ty and Sully receive a robbery call, and they go after a man who, after 1 or 2 blocks, falls to the floor and crashes into a series of garbage cans. Suddenly, Ty calls Sully, when he discovers a headless torso. Initially, only the torso is found, but a hand is soon discovered, which enables them to discover the identity of the dead man, who turns out to be Bosco's brother, Mikey.
Bosco is in denial when Sasha, Ty, Sully and the chief tell him. First he blames Lester Martin, but when he denies it, he turns to Cruz, who says she will find the responsible for what happened to his brother, and that "justice" will be made (which Bosco finds ironic). Sergeant Wynn tells Bosco to keep off the anti-crime and narcotics investigation, and not to put pressure on Cruz.
Meanwhile, Faith is at the hospital watching for Rebecca, the abused girl. She soon finds out after Jan Martin confesses that Lester beat Rebecca before going to Mikey's trial, and that Rebecca isn't their natural daughter after all, she was stolen from her parents by Lester. In exchange for a deal, Lester gives them a name of a man who supposedly handed her to him, but they discover that he is dead, and that she couldn't possibly be his daughter, as he was black. Sasha and Faith check on the missing children data base, and find her biological mather, and they are able to reunite them. They take Lester to prison for kidnapping, and after he tries to put the blame on Faith, she tells his fellow convicts that he is a child abuser.
When Faith arrives at home, she finds out that Fred left with Charlie and Emily. We then find out that the earlier incident of the handbag robbery was fabricated, on the insistence of Donald Mann (who is grieving over the death of his son Joey Mann), so that the police would find the dead body of Mikey and so that Mann could make Bosco suffer before he dies. At Bosco's mums house, Rose is inconsolable, and Bosco's father Anthony arrives sometime later after she calls him, much to Bosco's disapproval.
