Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr

Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr was an important jurist in early Islam. Based in Medina, he was influential in disseminating early traditions of hadith, fiqh (jurisprudence) and tafsir (exegesis) of the Qur'an.

His mother was the daughter of Yazdgerd III, the last king of Persia. His father is Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and his grandfather was Abu Bakr, the first Caliph. Al-Qāsim is considered fourth in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain of Sufi masters. Naqshbandis also consider him to have passed the chain to his grandson Ja'far al-Sadiq.

Many sayings in the hadith tradition attest to the scholarship and piety of Al-Qasim.

He died in a place between Makkah and Madinah called al-Qudayd in the year 108 (or 109)AH (Islamic calendar) while he was on Hajj (pilgrimage). He was seventy years old at the time of his passing.
